I need a foot stool for my old tired legs! Looked at some ready ones and then got an idea to make one. Why not! The easiest way to go about it is to get a ready stool and cover it. Would have been nice to make it from scratch but I am no carpenter.

Got my self one of these! It is sturdy but still very comfortable for my legs.

First I thought of covering it by knitting something or even macrame but decided to use fabric. Of to a fabric store. I was lucky to find the shade of green I was hoping for. And the fabric was on sale. Double luck.

Now I am going to tell you how I went about doing the cover. Easy!!

1. Before heading to the fabric shop measure your stool well. Best take too make measures than too little. This way the sales personnel will be able to help you better should you need any. Here are my measurements.

2. First I decided which side would be on top. This fabric could be used either way. I then cut out a piece to fit around the stool leaving extra on both ends. I pinned it to the cushion reverse side on top. Pin it thighly.

3. For the ends I cut out two circles, also leaving extra around it. I made small cuts around the piece so it would be easier to place on the stool ends.

4. Fold in the sides of the bottom circle sew around it.

5. Best thing is to pin the other circle while on the stool. This way you will get it on a right place easier.

6. Remove the fabrics of the stool and sew the long side, cut any extra fabric. Sew the circle on and turn the cover right side up. Remeber to use zigzag!

7. When all this is done put your cover back on the stool. Now right side on top. This should be difficult! If the fabric is too loose it will move in place while the stool is used. So make sure your cover is tight! You can use pins to keep it in place while pulling it down.

8. Once it is in place pull the fabric from below and tighten as you pull. Fold the fabric on the stool, cut some notchs, pin in place.

9. Measure your bottom circle just to make sure it is correct. Use textile glue to glue the bottom in place. Let dry properly!

10. Once the glue is dried place the circle on top, pin it down and sew it by hand. You can glue it if sewing by hand is not your thing.

11. Finally, take your foot stool, place it next to your chair, lift your feet up and enjoy!

12. Creativity does not have to end here though! You can decorate the tool in so many ways! Add tassels on it, some ribbon, maybe a leather strap, some buttons or maybe lace! What ever comes to your mind.

Rahin päällystys

1. Mittaa rahisi huolella. Saat apua kangaskaupassa kankaan menekin arvioimiseen ja laatuun.
2. Leikkaa kankaasta pala, joka ylettää hyvin rahin ympäri, jättäen hyvin varaa kumpaankin päähän. Neulaa kangas nurjapuoli päällepäin rahiin..
3. Molempia päätyjä varten mittaa ja leikkaa ympyrät saumanvaroja kannattaa jättää 1.5-2 cm. Harko reunat, jotta asettelu käy helpommin.
4. Käännä pohjaympyrän reunat sisään ja ompele reuna.
5. Yläosan ympyrä on helpointa neulata paikoilleen, kun kangas on aihion ympärillä. Näin saat sen istumaan paikoilleen varmemmin.
6. Poista kangas rahin ympäriltä ja ompele sivusauma kiinni, leikkaa pois ylimääräinen kangas. Ompele myös ympyrä lieriöön. Älä unohda siksakata reunoja.
7. Tämän jälkeen vedä päällinen uudestaan rahiaihion päälle. Nyt oikea puoli ulospäin. Tämän pitäisi olla hankalaa. Jos kangas on liian löysä liikkuu se paikoiltaan, kun tuolia käytetään. Varmista siis, että kangas on tiukka. Voit laittaa neuloja päällyksen reunaan kun vedät sitä alas, jotta se pysyy paikoillaan.
8. Kun päällynen on kokonaan alas vedetty ja hyvin paikoillaan, vedä vielä alareunasta saadaksesi sen tiukalle. Käännä alavarat sisään, harko ja neulaa paikoilleen.
9. Mittaa ala ympyrä varmistaaksesi, että se on oikean kokoinen. Käytä tekstiili liimaa alaympyrän kiinnittämiseen. Anna liiman kuivua kunnolla.
10. Kun liima on kuivunut, ompele alaosa kiinni käsin. Voit myös liimata sen, jos käsin ompelu ei maistu.
11. Lopuksi ota rahi ja vie se tuolisi viereen, nosta jalat sen päälle ja nauti!

12. Ideoiden ei tarvitse loppua tähän! Voit koristella rahiasi monella eri tavalla. Tupsut, nauhat, nahka, napit ja vaikka pitsi sopii hyvin koristeeksi. Oikeastaan ihan mikä vaan mieleesi tulee.
